The Drina is a river in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina that with its lower course creates a natural border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. The people affectionately call it Zelenika because of the emerald green color. Its length is 346km and eagles, pigeons, deer, rabbits, wolves and bears quench their thirst in it.

There are many bridges along the Drina. Of all the bridges the most famous is the old bridge in Višegrad, an endowment of Mehmed-pasha Sokolovic, built in 1571. The bridge was described by Nobel Prize winner Ivo Andrić, in the novel “The Bridge on the Drina".
