The mountain and health air
resort Zlatibor, with the longest tourist tradition, is located in
the west of Serbia, 230 km south-west of Belgrade. Its average
altitude above sea level is 1000 m.
The miraculous climate of Zlatibor is good for healing bronchial
asthma and other allergic illnesses. This kind of favorable climate
is ideal for preparations of children and other people and
improvement of general health condition.
The highest peak is Tornik (at an altitude of 1496m above sea level)
and Čigota (at an altitude of 1422 above sea level).
TOURIST ATRACTIONS OF ZLATIBOR AND SURROUDINGS
In the close environs and in the mountain of Zlatibor there are
several cultural, historical, and ethnological monuments and
attractions. We recommend visiting some of such places, but we will
not tell you the whole secret...
ETHNO VILLAGE SIROGOJNO
The museum in Sirogojno is an open sky museum called “Old Village”
and it is actually an authentic village from the end of the 19 and
the beginning of the 20th century and presents the lifestyle of a
village family.
MOKRA GORA
It is one of the nicest railways in the world, which passes over
Zlatibor to Mokra Gora. The train is nowadays operated as a tourist
attraction.
The train locomotive goes thought rocks, over precipices thereby
making an unusual path in the shape of number eight and, therefore,
it is called “Šargan Eight”.
MEĆAVNIK
On the way to Tara Mt. there is another attraction, the ethno
village Mećavnik, which was constructed by the famous film producer,
Emir Kusturica.
TARA MT. AND THE DRINA RIVER CANYON
Close to Zlatibor, there is another mountain beauty Tara Mt., which
is interesting for picnics, and rafting on the Tara River...
POTPEĆKA CAVE AND STOPICA CAVE
Close to Užice, on the way to Belgrade, there is Potpećka Cave.
Nearby is the ethno village Zlakusa with a restaurant.
Not far from Zlatibor, on the way to Sirogojno near Rozanstvo, newly
opened Stopica cave expects its visitors. If you have time, make
sure to visit this amazing place
TORNIK AND ČIGOTA
The highest peak, Tornik (at an altitude of 1496 above sea level)
and Čigota (at an altitude of 1422 above sea level) can be visited
for the fan of mountaineering with the possibility of all-day
hiking.
Skiers will enjoy three slopes with modern 6-seat ski lift in the
Tornik ski center, conveniently located just 7 kilometers from the
center.
